The final shoe on American consumerism is about to fall
Front page / World / Americas
13.10.2008 Source: Pravda.Ru

Americaapos;s bedraggled, debt slave consumers are about to reap the final whirlwind which will finally unwind what is left of their consumer materialist society. This final shoe will come in the form of the cheaply made and cheap priced and often poisonous Chinese consumer goods. It is these very goods that not only have stuffed American households in a gluttony of soulless, Christless consumerism but have equally driven those same mindless consumers out of their middle class manufacturing jobs and into the lower class that make up the vast vast masses of service sector jobs.

Of course the fact that a service economy is a natural by product of a manufacturing economy is lost on those whose education is now a deteriorating 3rd world joke with a 1st world price tag and who listen to the likes of the Communist News Network (CNN) or Faux News, both corporately owned by a small powerful and government aligned (both parties) oligarchs.

But all that aside, and back to the subject. The Chinese are about to raise prices on consumer goods as they have already raised prices on metal industrial inputs. There are three reasons for this. First is the falling dollar. Turns out, all those pseudo calls to release the Yuan did just that and the Yuan, while still ballasted down not to rise to quickly, has risen 6 against the dollar. So thatapos;s 6 so far. Then we have the 9 inflation rate of todayapos;s China, which equally raises the prices of inputs (raw materials), work (ok, the Chinese slave wage is a joke so 10 more on a 25 cent per hour pay is still a joke at 27.5 cents) and overhead (paper pushers, electricity, energy in general, rent, etc). Finally, in order to combat an overheated economy, which is obvious from the high inflation rate, China has moved to cut back subsidies to itapos;s industry (thatapos;s right all you Free Trade zealot fools, youapos;re the only idiots playing that game, everyone else plays mercantilism...defending their economy). Seems that many of those cuts are up to 20 in nature and the suppliers have tacked that 20 right on to their prices.

So all told, so far, thatapos;s about a 30-36 rise in price.

Have not felt that yet? Do not worry, they are working their way up the manufacturing chain, as usual starting with basic inputs and propagating upwards. You will feel it soon enough.

What will an economy, the worldapos;s biggest debtor, already under strains of a 7-10 actual inflation rate (vs the 3 marked down liar rate of the Fed) and where consumerism alone makes up 70 of the economy, do?

Well the usual Fed policy of making more money sure as hell wonapos;t help the situation.

Good luck, youapos;ll need it.

Ouch. But, sadly there is some truth in it. It seems to me that the best way to combat this is to buy goods made at home rather than abroad.

At some point, in order for me to do this, Iapos;m going to have to get over my paranoia that someoneapos;s gonna figure out who I am. If I donapos;t, Iapos;ll never say what Iapos;d say otherwise. Unless my husband accessed this. Though I guess that wouldnapos;t be so bad, since I donapos;t exactly have anything that he either A: doesnapos;t already know, or B: hasnapos;t already quietly figured out over the years. That and I have some weird thing about talking to people. I always feel like such a moron, for lack of a better term. Thatapos;s probably because I am... Then again, Iapos;m not really talking to anyone. Yet. I digress.

Over the years, the plethora of psychiatrists Iapos;ve seen have all suggested I keep a journal. Iapos;ve never much been interested in the idea, always found it rather silly. However, here recently Iapos;ve begun to feel ever more closed in and alone. I know, poor pitiful me. Weapos;ll stay clear of my apos;diagnosisapos;, axis this and axis that. It seems everyone has one or two or three these days, and are flung about like itapos;s some kind of diamond encrusted badge that everyone just *has to see* because itapos;s so critical of just how special you are.

I appear to be rambling. Never could pinpoint a... Point.

At any rate. Back to the whole closed-in thing. I have no friends. Literally. I did have a friend, a few years back, but turns out she was absolutely diabolical in her maniacal manipulations and pathological lies. Of course on some level I knew this - but I loved her. Anyway. It did not end well. So I guess I got burned, to say the least, and canapos;t bring myself to so much as make small-talk with someone. Except I really miss having a friend like that. Without the whole crazy-psycho-bitch-whore bit. Talk about jacked-up, boy, sheapos;s it. Takes the whole damned buffet. Sapos;ok, one day her own shit will eat her alive, and Iapos;ll be watching when it does.

See, for the most part, Iapos;m a nice crazy. Never said I couldnapos;t be painfully blunt and potentially offensive. Mayhaps thatapos;s why I donapos;t have any friends. Boo-hoo. Ha. Ha. Haa...

Bah. Back to whatever I was trying to get to.

My husband and I have been together for 11 years, married for 5, and thereapos;s not another being in this whole shibang that could possibly know more about me (and so on and so forth) than he does. That does not mean that he can relate to me, or with me, on some points.

I suppose thatapos;s what Iapos;m here and looking for.

So, it is, how you say on the playground in kindergarten...

Will you be my friend?

Fuck shame.

a few nights ago i saw some friends at momapos;s whom i havenapos;t seen in a few years.
they seemed mostly like the same girls, only with cool, serious jobs. Nothing much seemed to have changed there. Itapos;s kind of as if time stops in that tow and the people that i left behind stopped too. Iapos;m not saying that in a bad way, the opposite really. They seem to have settled into a life full of certainties and loves and friends and lives they never have to negotiate having. I can only wish i had something of that certainty in my life to replace the feeling that it could all fall away instantly or twist and turn itself around into something unfamiliar and new.

i wonder if i could have stayed there and made myself one of the girls i used to be and kept the life i used to have with the people i used to share it with. I envy the relationships theyapos;ve held onto and havenapos;t had to sacrifice for things that might well be worth it in the end but that you had to give up with no guarantee. I miss a life iapos;ve never had and feel nostalgic about a person i havenapos;t had a chance to be. They had such warmth and security only years and years can bring. I wish i could have held onto that, since i doubt you can ever build it again.

after we left, we came to spend a few days at boyfriendapos;s parents.
the weather has been perfect autumnal goodness and has made me long for the security of a feeling of home. I wish for nothing right now like i wish for the opportunity to breathe between the days that pass me by. I want to mark things and make things with my hands. I want to build a feeling of home around me, to keep me safe the long cold winter months to come. Right now though, thereapos;s nothing in me to give to anyone, including myself. Iapos;m barely a tired ball of stress and confusion. Nothing gets done around me and i fall apart at the effort of being alive. School drifts by and the memory of days when you had to do nothing but lounge around campus getting coffee and sleeping through lectures taunts me with itapos;s absolute impossibility. I wish i could have another fall of nothing but school and coffee some day.
